I will admit – after having witnessed so many heroic efforts at the local level, and even by entire state legislative bodies – that I am skeptical of progress within the existing structures. If the position is important, whether elected or appointed, the money-people will have done the lobbying and coercion necessary to ensure that the position is not occupied by an adversary. If the position is important, whether elected or appointed, the money-people will have done the lobbying and coercion necessary to ensure that the position is not occupied by an adversary. That leaves lots of room for activism – but activism that goes nowhere because it is vetoed by a governor or struck down by a district or federal judge.

There needs to arise some parallel structures, at some sort of regional level, less than national but more than local; in support of catholic goals and interests. The Constitution in itself is not adequate to the task, having gotten us to this mess in the first place.

So, in short, I am here looking for allies in the Upper Midwest; persons and groups that our local group can aid, and that can aid us, in a coordinated manner; and close enough geographically to be able to make a targeted impact with reasonable expectation of success. Letter-writing campaigns would be a basic example of a coordinated effort.

There is a good core group locally, but 10's of 1000's of $ have done little to get beyond that locale, and with very little success.
